FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 4, 2024 — Sonoma Valley Hospital (SVH) was honored to welcome California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Deputy Treasurer Khaim Morton, and California Health Facilities Financing Authority (CHFFA) Executive Director Carolyn Aboubechara on Tuesday, February 4th to connect with SVH Leadership and tour our main hospital campus.
Joined by Sonoma Mayor Patricia Farrar-Rivas and Council Member Jack Ding, Sonoma Valley Health Care District (SVHCD) Board Chair Wendy Lee Myatt, SVH CEO John Hennelly, SVH CFO Ben Armfield, SVHCD Secretary Dennis Bloch, SVHCD Treasurer Ed Case, and former SVHCD Treasurer Bill Boreum enjoyed an engaged, productive meeting which highlighted the long-term collaborative work between the Treasurer’s office and SVH.
Treasurer Ma, Mr. Morton, and Ms. Aboubechara were quick to discuss the relevant state programs. As stated by Treasurer Ma Tuesday afternoon, “My CA Health Facilities Finance Authority (CHFFA) has provided key loans to Sonoma Valley Hospital (and many others) to keep this vital facility open. For decades, CA healthcare facilities have been facing fiscal challenges as Medi-Cal and Medicaid funding lags behind rising costs, COVID, rising labor and supply costs, lack of advanced practice nurses and general nursing shortages. Despite challenges, we are happy to learn that Sonoma Valley Hospital (formed in 1946) ranks #2 among acute care hospitals in CA and #10 nationally in 2024-2025 (by the Lown Institute) and continues to provide essential, high quality, accessible healthcare to over 40K residents.”
We are grateful for the time in person with Treasurer Ma’s team. “I found the visit to be valuable. I am in awe of Treasurer Ma’s, and her team’s, insight into the challenges for Community Hospitals and her propensity for action and offering assistance,” says SVHCD Board Chair Wendy Lee Myatt.
