Welcoming a Bright and Healthy 2025
Happy New Year! This year, we’re excited to build on the incredible milestones we achieved together in 2024. Sonoma Valley Hospital (SVH) was deeply honored to receive Senator Bill Dodd’s commendation for our commitment to the health and well-being of our community. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff, partners, and supporters who make our mission possible.
In 2024, we introduced transformative advancements, including the installation of the 3Tesla MRI, a significant leap forward in diagnostic imaging. We also partnered with organizations like Vintage House to deliver wellness presentations focused on active aging, addressing the evolving needs of our community.
Looking ahead, 2025 is a year of new opportunities to promote health and wellness. This month, we’re starting with a focus on nutrition, featuring Alesha Tremain, our dedicated Sonoma Valley Hospital Dietitian. Alesha’s work within the hospital and her practical tips for informed food choices are helping patients and the community create sustainable habits that enhance overall well-being.
Thank you for your continued trust and support. Here’s to a bright, healthy, and fulfilling year ahead for all!

Get to Know Us: Profiles from Sonoma Valley Hospital
Behind the Plate: Meet Our Dietitian
Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Dietitian, Alesha Tremain, brings her passion for community involvement and nutrition to her work, empowering patients to make informed choices about their health. From volunteering in her daughter’s classroom and serving as the “Book Doctor” at Alta Heights to her years of service at the Veterans Home in Yountville, Alesha has built her career on a foundation of care and dedication.
At Sonoma Valley Hospital, Alesha focuses on providing individualized nutrition education that supports patient care and promotes sustainable habits for long-term health. She also collaborates closely with her department to ensure high-quality meals are served to patients, residents, and staff, emphasizing locally sourced, in-house-prepared menus.
“I believe that small, sustainable changes are the key to long-term health,” she explains. “Nutrition isn’t just about food; it’s about creating a lifestyle that supports your overall well-being.”
Her advice for starting the new year on a healthy note? “Don’t aim for perfection. Begin with one or two small changes, like adding more greens to your meals or going on a short walk 2 – 3 times per week. Those steps can lead to meaningful progress. Balance is key to long term success.”
With her collaborative approach and commitment to the community, Alesha plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of Sonoma Valley.
Q&A with Alesha Tremain, Registered Dietitian
1. Can you share a bit about yourself and your journey to Sonoma Valley Hospital?
“I am passionate about community involvement, from volunteering in my daughter’s classroom to serving as the Alta Heights ‘Book Doctor,’ where I repair damaged books to keep them in circulation. I also enjoy hiking, exploring national parks, and cooking with my family—including our spirited puppy, Cooper, who often joins us on outdoor adventures.
I spent the last 10 years as a registered dietitian at the Veterans Home in Yountville, where I cared for over 1,000 veterans. During that time, I had the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally, collaborating with incredible teams and receiving recognition for my contributions. I also served on several mock survey teams to assist other Veterans Homes statewide, enhancing the quality of care across California.
I joined Sonoma Valley Hospital because I wanted to expand my skills as a dietitian in an acute care hospital setting. It was the perfect opportunity—or perhaps it found me!”
2. Can you tell us more about your position and your department?
“Our department includes three leadership staff, ten full-time kitchen staff, three per-diem kitchen staff, and one per-diem registered dietitian. Many of our team members have been with Sonoma Valley Hospital for over 15 years, which speaks to their dedication and passion.
We focus on providing an elevated menu for patients, residents, and staff, emphasizing healthy eating and sourcing ingredients from local vendors whenever possible. Nearly 100% of our menu is prepared in-house, and we serve between 110 and 120 meals daily across the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and the hospital.”
3. What does a typical day look like for you as a Dietitian in the hospital?
“My day begins with printing the daily census and reviewing each patient’s labs, intake, weights, admitting diagnoses, and medical history as I prepare for morning rounds. Of course, I always start with a perfectly balanced breakfast and coffee!
At 9:30 a.m., I attend rounds with the care team, where we discuss each patient’s status and collaborate on their care plans. After rounds, I spend the day completing nutritional assessments, crafting individualized care plans, and providing tailored nutrition education. I also connect patients to community resources like the Food For Thought Welcome Home Program and Ceres, as needed.
Other responsibilities include conducting monthly kitchen sanitation inspections, reviewing the nutritional content of menus, and leading training sessions for our kitchen staff.”
4. What do you find most rewarding about your role at Sonoma Valley Hospital?
“The most rewarding part of my role is building meaningful relationships with patients and their families. It’s fulfilling to provide the nutritional support and guidance they need during challenging times.
I also deeply value the collaborative environment at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Our team of doctors, nurses, speech therapists, and other staff work together seamlessly to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.”
5. What do you enjoy most about living and working in Sonoma Valley?
“Although I live in Napa, I love the sense of community in Sonoma Valley. Patients often share fascinating local history, and events like the Sonoma Tuesday Market highlight the vibrancy and pride of this amazing community. It’s a privilege to work in a place that feels so connected and welcoming.”
