Sonoma Valley Health Care District Board Seeks Candidates For Two Open Committee Positions

Sonoma Valley Health Care District announced at the January board meeting that its Finance Committee has two “community member” positions open and invites members of the community to apply. Experience in finance or healthcare finance is preferred. Applicants must be District residents. Interested parties can submit a letter of interest noting why he/she wants to serve and what contribution can be made to the Committee and provide a copy of their professional biography or resume to the Board for consideration.  

The Finance Committee reports to the Board of Directors and oversees management of finances to ensure that the hospital is financially sustainable. The Board looks to the Finance Committee to ask questions; to ask for analysis; to track projects over time; and to look at the month-to-month financials and help plan the annual budget. The Committee meets monthly, and it is expected that members attend 90% of the meetings. The term is four years. There is no compensation.

“With seven members of its nine appointed from the community, the Finance Committee is a very important element in the governance and oversight of Sonoma Valley Hospital, ensuring its sustainability to serve the healthcare needs of the community,” said Bill Boerum, Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair. Boerum elaborated more stating, “The Committee’s responsibilities include reviewing Sonoma Valley Hospital’s monthly financial statements and the administration’s plans and actions for improving financial performance; reviewing the hospital’s operating and capital budgets for recommendations to the district board of directors; monitoring the district’s debt and recommending financing alternatives; and reviewing the hospital’s insurance and investment programs.”
