Sonoma Valley Hospital Holds Community Event To Celebrate Earth Day, April 22

Sonoma Valley Hospital will celebrate Earth Day with an educational event emphasizing the benefits of recycling that is open to the community. The event will promote sustainable environmental practices everyone can do, providing information and resources on recycling, as well as safe household cleaning, organic gardening, water conservation and the importance of environmentally-friendly products.

The event also will include fresh food demonstrations and displayed art made with repurposed materials. People are invited to bring extra seeds to swap with other gardeners at the seed exchange table. There will be a display highlighting sustainable products and design elements incorporated into the new wing’s Emergency Department and Surgery Center, which opened in February.

It will be held in the Norman Gilroy Healing Garden (the courtyard behind the Hospital’s main entrance) from 11:30 to 1:30 pm on Tuesday, April 22. For more information, call 707-935-5144.

“Recycling is one of the easiest sustainability activities for individuals and businesses to do and speaks to all that Earth Day represents,” said Alley Brown, SVH Green Team Leader. “We are deeply committed to recycling at the Hospital and have increased the amount of recycled materials to 30 percent over the past two years.”

The event is being organized by the Hospital’s Green Team, a group of employees charged with identifying and promoting environmentally sustainable practices within the Hospital. Sonoma Valley Hospital has made a commitment to implement eco-friendly practices that benefit the health of patients, staff, and the environment. As part of this commitment, SVH works in partnership with Practice Greenhealth, a national organization of 1,200 health care providers.
