SVH Launches Senior Wellness Program-Classes Begin in April

March 25, 2013

Free Classes for the Active Aging are Offered Starting in April

March 19, 2013: Sonoma Valley Hospital is launching a new program to foster health and fitness for the “active aging.” The new program called Senior Wellness is a safe, supervised exercise program overseen by the hospital’s Physical Therapy department.

“Exercise is medicine. We know that many disease processes respond positively to exercise,” said Dawn Kuwahara, RN, director of Professional Services. This new wellness program also known as an M.O.G. or Medically Oriented Gym, is a one of a kind, community based fitness and health facility that bridges the gap between medicine and fitness. An M.O.G. moves away from the do-it-yourself fitness experience and provides its members with the opportunity to work with licensed, highly trained physical therapy staff.

The Senior Wellness Program is open Monday through Friday and is conveniently located within the hospital. Gym hours are also available at the offsite Hand and Physical Therapy Clinic located at 19312 Hwy. 12. As part of the membership, all new members receive an initial evaluation by a physical therapist and are set up with an individualized exercise program to meet their goals. The program also offers group classes and educational seminars. For more information, contact Linda Ingles, PTA, at 935-5043 or Dawn Kuwahara, RN, at 935-5469.
