Sonoma Valley Hospital (SVH) is thrilled to announce our cutting-edge 3Tesla MRI scanner, a pivotal addition to our diagnostic suite, is live and we will begin patient scans immediately. This advanced technology marks a significant milestone in the $21M+ Outpatient Diagnostic Center capital campaign, demonstrating the unwavering support from our generous community.
The new 3Tesla MRI (3T MRI) illustrates a major leap forward in medical imaging, enhancing the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities and patient care. Dr. Adam Nevitt, Chair of the Radiology Department at SVH, emphasizes the transformative impact of this upgrade. “The 3T MRI provides higher resolution imaging and shorter scan times compared to our previous equipment,” Dr. Nevitt explains. “It enables us to conduct non-invasive studies and offers a faster, more efficient way to scan multiple organs simultaneously. With twice the strength of traditional MRIs, it can help detect abnormalities more effectively.”
Patients will experience notable improvements with the new 3T MRI — the MRI’s larger bore design makes scans less intrusive and more comfortable, while faster scan times reduce overall procedure length. “The enhanced imaging quality and reduced claustrophobia contribute to a superior patient experience and better overall healthcare,” Dr. Nevitt adds.
There are only a handful of these powerful scanners in the entire Bay Area, ensuring top-ranking diagnostics right in the heart of Sonoma Valley. The introduction of the 3T MRI also strengthens SVH’s affiliation with UCSF Health. This technology allows us to perform many scans previously requiring travel to San Francisco, fulfilling our goal of providing top-notch diagnostic care in a local, accessible setting.
The acquisition of the 3T MRI would not have been possible without the immense generosity of our community. Dr. Nevitt extends his heartfelt gratitude, stating, “It is a minor miracle to have this magnet and technology at our rural community hospital. This doesn’t happen without the immense generosity and extreme commitment of community members. I can’t thank our community enough for making this possible!”
