SVH Recognized For Maternity Care
December 9, 2014Sonoma Valley Hospital has been recognized as one of 33 “High-Performing Hospitals” in California for the quality of its maternity care services, according to a recent report issued by The California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Taskforce (CHART).
CHART analyzed four measures of hospital maternity care – low-risk C-section rates, episiotomy rates, rates of exclusive breastfeeding before discharge, and VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section) rates – and found wide variation in how hospitals performed. Among the 262 California hospitals providing maternity care, just 33 were recognized as “high-performing.”
According to the report, hospitals are designated as “High-Performing” when they receive three or more Superior or Above Average scores, and no Average or Below Average Scores. Information on this report can be found here.
The Birthplace at Sonoma Valley Hospital has three private suites for labor, delivery and recovery, and five postpartum rooms, staffed by an experienced team of skilled obstetric nurses who provide personalized attention. A pediatrician and anesthesiologist are available 24 hours a day. Anyone interested in a tour can call 707-935-5301.
The California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Taskforce (CHART) was established in 2004 to develop a statewide hospital performance reporting system using a multi-stakeholder collaborative process. The on-line CHART public report card is available at
