Update on Covid-19 Vaccination for Sonoma Valley Residents
February 23, 2021DATE: Tuesday, February 23, 2021
Many COVID-19 Vaccination clinics were cancelled on short notice this past weekend due to unusually severe weather conditions across the country that delayed vaccine delivery. The shipments in route to Sonoma Valley were amongst those that did not arrive in time for previously schedule vaccination clinics. Both the High School and Veteran’s Building vaccination sites were impacted by weather related delays in vaccine shipments which unfortunately led to short notice cancellations of some clinic days.
It was a major disappointment for all of us to have to cancel Sunday’s (February 21) first-dose clinic. Although we tried to reach everyone registered for the clinic through email notifications, phone calls and social media posts, we were not able to reach all and we apologize to those who turned up Sunday to the closed clinic site. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community, and your resilience during what are challenging times.
VACCINE SCHEDULING CHANGES:
On Monday (February 22), we received our delayed shipment of the Moderna vaccine. In order to re-schedule the affected vaccinations, we have made the following schedule changes.
There will be two separate drive-through clinics held this coming weekend. Saturday is for FIRST dose Moderna only and Sunday is for SECOND dose Pfizer only. If you have questions about the following schedule changes, please contact us at community@sonomavalleyhospital.org.
- If you were scheduled to receive your FIRST dose Moderna vaccination on Sunday, February 21, you are now rescheduled for Saturday, February 27. Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date at the same time. You do not need to do anything and you may have already received an email confirming the change.
- If you were scheduled for the SECOND Pfizer clinic planned for Saturday, February 27, we have rescheduled your appointment to Sunday, February 28. Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date at the same time. You do not need to do anything and you may have already received an email confirming the change.
- If you were previously scheduled to receive your second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Saturday 2/27/2021 (first dose administered 2/6), please do NOT show up at the High School on Saturday, 2/27 – you will be turned away and asked to return on Sunday, 2/28.
- If you were previously scheduled to receive your second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Saturday 2/27/2021 (first dose administered 2/6), please do NOT show up at the High School on Saturday, 2/27 – you will be turned away and asked to return on Sunday, 2/28.
- If you did not receive an email notification regarding these changes, please contact us at community@sonomavalleyhospital.org
FUTURE DISTRIBUTION PLANS AND COVID-19 VACCINATION CLINICS:
As the Federal and State Roll-Out of the vaccine begins to stabilize, volumes and availability continues to grow, and eligibility criteria expands, we encourage those seeking their first dose to sign-up and register with MyTurn (www.myturn.ca.gov). Through MyTurn those eligible can schedule an appointment when available. If it’s not your turn yet or appointments are not available, you will be registered to be notified when they are. Retail pharmacy sites, such as CVS (https://www.cvs.com/immunizations/covid-19-vaccine) will continue to provide vaccines and larger mass vaccine sites such as the Oakland Coliseum will also continue to be an option. Here in Sonoma Valley, the SVHP continues to support Sonoma Valley Community Health Center managed site at the Veteran’s Memorial Building.
For more information about the Veteran’s Memorial Building site, please email: events@svchc.org or call 707.939.6070.
